In Spain there are several lists of defaulters, which have repercussions on the granting of a loan
Behind the ASNEF acronym there is the National Association of Financial Establishments of Credit. In other words, it is one of the most important debt registers in Spain . Therefore, appearing in this file will make it hard for us to get a bank trust in us to grant us a loan, credit, mortgage … in reality, it will virtually impossible for us to access financing. Let’s review now how this file works and what alternatives there are to get it out.
ASNEF is a database that banks regularly consult , as part of the client profile study when it comes to lending money or offering the hiring of, for example, credit cards. Although it is not the only file of these characteristics (RAI or Record of Unpaid Acceptions is another), it is one of the most relevant and serves as a tool to make decisions for most banks of the country
An unpaid invoice, such as the telephone line or the gas bill, is sufficient because the company that provides the service decides to be included in this file. However, the consumer must be notified , no later than 30 days after being included in the list.
From here, a period of grace of ten days is opened in which we can pay the debts that impute us. If not, we will officially become part of the list of defaulters for a period of six years. And if this is the case, our ability to hire services, both banking and of any other nature, will be drastically reduced.
What do we do if they include us?
The normal thing is that before the inclusion of our data in the list of ASNEF we receive a notification by letter. Then there are several possibilities to reverse this situation : either pay off the debt or request the cancellation of our data, provided that:
- We have not communicated, via postal, the inclusion of our data in this file.
- The debt does not belong to us or it can not be shown that it corresponds to us.
- We have already settled the debt prior to the inclusion of our data in this file.
To begin the process of “erasing” our data, the most common is to go to our bank (even if it is not the company that included us in the file) or, if not, visit the website of the Association , in which the procedure is explained in detail and the corresponding forms are provided.
In addition, as clients included in the ASNEF, we have the right to request information about the company that has claimed our inclusion in the list, the amount that we demand and the date on which our data have been stopped to this file.
