John 5 won an award for his first childhood Halloween costume

Halloween is an exciting time for kids, especially since they know they can pick up candy from members of their neighborhood. For John 5, his first memories of Halloween were rather unconventional – especially his first costume, which he won an award for.

“Halloween where I grew up was very special. It was very nice. I grew up in a very, very nice neighborhood. So we would go and make treats and you were invited into the houses,” he recalled. at Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez. “I remember they had hot donuts. Everyone had hot donuts, and either hot chocolate or something.”

The guitarist explained that his elementary school once held a Halloween costume contest. He and his mother waited until the last minute to come up with a costume idea, so all the stores were closed. In the end, she decided to make a DIY costume for him, which consisted of one of her dresses, a fur garment resembling a scarf, a hat, and a bit of makeup.

“And she said, ‘Okay, you’re a prostitute with a lot of money.’ And I was like, ‘Okay!’ “, Recalled the rocker. “So I go to school with that dress and that fur, and those weird faux diamonds and my face was made up and all that. And I won the top prize.”

John’s next new album 5 Sinner arrives October 29 – pre-order it here now. To hear more details on the record, tune in to Loudwire Nights tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
