Ray-Ban and Facebook launch Snazzy smart glasses

Want style, comfort and a little magic in your sunglasses? Ray-Ban has now partnered with Facebook to launch Ray-Ban Stories, smart sunglasses that will never let you miss a photo again.

Appearing in iconic Wayfarer, Round, or Meteor frames, the Ray-Ban Stories may look like traditional eyewear, but take a closer look and you’ll notice two small cameras on either side of the lenses. Wearers can press a button and the glasses will start recording everything they watch.

Instant photo and video (up to 30 seconds) let you capture spontaneous moments using the dual 5-megapixel cameras. A quick press of a button or a hands-free voice command from the Facebook Assistant – “Hey Facebook, take a picture” – lets you take spontaneous moments. First-person perspective images allow anyone watching to really see the world with their own eyes.

Ray-Ban Stories are also designed with individual privacy in mind, helping device owners and photo subjects feel comfortable, secure and informed. A capture LED lights up at the corner of the lens when cameras are turned on to notify people nearby that photography or recording is in progress. Users can set privacy settings through the companion app and turn off the technical functionality of the glasses via a switch inside the arm.

After capturing photos and / or videos, the companion app “Facebook View” allows you to browse footage, edit and enhance the daily memories captured on Ray-Ban Stories and share the content via Facebook, Instagram , TikTok, WhatsApp, or any other social media app.

An integrated Bluetooth audio matrix with 3 microphones allows you to listen to your favorite media, music or podcasts from any phone application, as well as take calls from your Ray-Ban Stories. And a portable charging case keeps the glasses charged for up to three days.

Ray-Ban Stories is far from the first product to have these capabilities. In 2017, Snapchat tried a similar product, called “Snapchat Shows” and in 2015, Google Glass was created, but its lack of a signature look failed to attract consumers, ending up at the “Museum of Failure” of Sweden two years later.

Starting at $ 299, you can choose from 20 combinations of frames and lens styles. Ray-Ban Stories are available now in select Ray-Ban stores, on Ray-Ban.com and will soon be available from retailers in 6 countries including US, UK, Canada, Italy , Ireland and Australia. They are also available with Polarized (starting at $ 329), Transitions ($ 379) and corrective lenses (various prices).
